If you drive in Central London, big updates are on the way. From 2 January 2026, the London Congestion Charge is changing as the daily charge is increasing. But there’s good news for electric vehicle (EV) drivers: a new 25% Cleaner Vehicle Discount could save you over £1,000* a year.
Here’s everything you need to know and how to make sure you’re registered in time.
What’s Changing?
The daily Congestion Charge is rising from £15 to £18.
However, Transport for London (TfL) is launching a Cleaner Vehicle Discount for EVs that use Auto Pay, bringing the daily charge down to £13.50 instead of £18.
For regular PCO drivers who frequently enter the zone, this adds up to around £1,035* in annual savings.
Who’s Eligible for the Discount?
You can get the 25% discount if:
You drive an electric vehicle
You register your vehicle with TfL
You use Auto Pay for the Congestion Charge
How to Register and Get the Discount
Getting set up is simple and only takes a few minutes. Here’s what you need to do:
Download the “TfL Pay to Drive in London” App
Create an account
Tap ‘Apply for AutoPay’
Add your EV to your account
Register your card details
Once you're registered, the 25% discount will automatically apply from 2 January 2026.
Extra Support From Uber
To help drivers cover costs, Uber will continue to pay the £1.50 Central London Fee for every trip that starts, ends, or passes through the Congestion Charge zone—regardless of the upcoming changes.
